We meet Sundays at Temple Israel, on West Oak St. at S. Madison (See map.) Fellowship begins at 10:00 am, with coffee and pastry. Meeting starts at 10:30 am
Our Sunday meetings include singing, readings, and programs, sometimes presented by speakers from outside the fellowship and sometimes lively informal discussion moderated by congregation members. Suggestions for topics are always welcome.
For our program schedule see our calendar. Visitors are always welcome. Dress as you please. Child care is provided by our RE program.
Attending the ASU UU Student Fellowship is a great way to meet some great UUs on campus! We meet twice a month, with the meetings usually including contemporary music, games, and a lot of fun. Contact Daniel for meeting times and locations.
We value the search for truth and wisdom, a concern for other people, a commitment to love, the importance of self-repect, independence, imagination, love, and logic as a means toward the expression of our faith. The purpose of our RE program is to encourage these traits in the next generation.
As a small fellowship we do not yet have many children, but we consider them an important part of our congregation. Religious education based on our Unitarian Universalist principles is available during most of our Sunday meetings. For more information, contact Holly.
Like most congregations, ours could not easily get by without the devoted work of committee members. Most of us feel that committees are not just a necessary way of getting things done, but an added opportunity to enjoy each others' company and feel of service to our faith community. Currently they include the executive committee, the finance committee, the program committee, the publicity committee, the caring committee, the hospitality committee, the newsletter committee, the social action committee, and the diversity committee. If you wish to serve on any of these, contact Candella.
Our fellowship is one of several local congregations that support, through financial contributions and volunteer work, the organization Helping Neighbors and its Jonesboro Interfaith Food Pantry program.
You can support the efforts of Helping Neighbors by patronizing a supermarket participating in the "Feed the Need" Coupon Program. Each time you shop, you can tear off a coupon at the cash register and turn it in to the cashier, who will add that amount to your bill--a convenient way to assist the needy in our area.
Part of the outreach of our fellowship is its softball team, which has played since 1985 in the Jonesboro Christian Athletic Association. The team gives visible presence to liberal religion in Jonesboro and provides an opportunity to inform the public of our mission by keeping our name in the winner's column. For information on joining the team, contact Mike.
